When ocean freight keeps rising, a lower factory price does not always mean a lower product cost. For economy gas hob brands, shipping can have a direct impact on the final landed cost. This was exactly the problem faced by one of Greaidea's customers. The customer was selling economy gas hobs and wanted to keep the product competitively priced. But two costs were becoming increasingly difficult to manage: the purchase price and the number of units loaded into each container. 

Instead of focusing only on reducing the gas hob factory price, Greaidea looked at another part of the cost structure — packaging and container loading efficiency. The result was a Super Mini Packaging Solution that increased the loading capacity of the same 40HQ container from 1,300 units to 2,020 units — an increase of 55%.

The Challenge: When Shipping Cost Becomes Part of Product Cost

The customer was operating in a price-sensitive gas hob market, where even a small difference in landed cost could directly affect the final selling price and profit margin. Under the original standard packaging solution, one 40HQ container could load around 1,300 built-in gas hobs.

Because ocean freight is largely a fixed cost for the container, the total shipping charge does not rise in proportion to the number of units loaded. When the loading quantity is limited, that fixed freight cost is spread across fewer products, which increases the logistics cost per unit and puts pressure on the overall product cost structure.

The customer needed a practical way to increase the loading quantity and reduce the freight cost per unit, without lowering product quality or simply turning the gas hob into a cheaper version. The real challenge was to improve packaging efficiency while keeping the product competitive in both performance and positioning.

The Task: Reduce Landed Cost Without Downgrading the Product

The target was clear: Keep the same gas hob product, but make each container work harder. Greaidea's engineering and packaging R&D team therefore looked beyond the product itself and reviewed the entire packaging structure. The question was:"How can we use the available packaging space more efficiently while keeping the product properly protected?"

By reviewing the packaging layer by layer, Greaidea reduced unnecessary gaps and compressed the overall package dimensions. The goal was not simply to make the box smaller. It was to make every centimeter of container space more useful.

3. Testing the New Packaging Before Shipment

One concern naturally comes with a smaller package: Will less packaging space mean a higher risk of damage?

A well-designed compact package can provide better space utilization without reducing protection. The same 40HQ container increased from approximately 1,300 gas hobs to 2,020 gas hobs. That is a 55% increase in loading capacity. Ocean freight is largely a fixed cost for the container. Whether the container carries 1,300 units or significantly more, the freight charge does not increase in the same proportion. For this case, using a benchmark ocean freight cost of $7,200 per 40HQ(Ocean freight rates for September 2026), the freight cost worked out to:

The customer could now ship significantly more gas hobs in the same container, while the fixed ocean freight cost was distributed across more units. That created a lower logistics cost per gas hob and gave the customer more flexibility in pricing and margin management.

Why Container Loading Matters for Gas Hob Brands

When brands compare gas hob suppliers, the factory quotation is usually one of the first numbers they look at. But it is not the only number that matters. The real product cost can include: Factory Price + Packaging + Ocean Freight + Customs + Inland Logistics + Other Import Costs
